  2. instrumental in abolishing slavery in the
  3. British Empire. He entered Parliament in
  4. 1780; in 1807 his bill for the abolition of
  5. the slave trade was passed, and in 1833,
  6. largely through his efforts, slavery was
  7. abolished throughout the empire.
